Reduced Depression and Anxiety!

Jessica and a friend from Farrell's BettendorfI thought I would start Farrell’s eXtreme Bodyshaping to lose some weight I had hanging out since having kids, but I didn’t know that it would have a major impact on other health issues I faced. I have fought headaches, anxiety, and depression for a long time. In 2016, it seemed like my headaches were getting worse and worse. I had gone to the doctor to figure out what I could do. I was prescribed medication that meant I had to take one pill every day and another pill when the headaches would pretty much stop me in my tracks. The anxiety and depression I just lived with because years ago I took medication and it dulled my personality. My husband actually called me a zombie when I was on medication for them. So, I dealt with them and had coping mechanisms when I had an episode of depression or an anxiety attack.

Starting Farrell’s Bettendorf was nerve-wracking. As an introvert I was starting something I didn’t know with people I didn’t know and my anxiety hit a huge spike. In my head, I thought - survive these 10 weeks - I can take what I learned and do them on my own after. During the first week, I was sore and worn down from the kickboxing and strength training classes, but I powered through. Things got a little bit better as the weeks went by, the soreness subsided, my energy level started to get better and time seemed to fly by. Around 5-week testing, people were starting to notice changes and asking me about what I was doing. I couldn’t answer the age-old question of “how much weight have you lost?” but I could tell them that I hadn’t had any headaches and my anxiety and depression had lessened. When I said that out loud it was a completely unexpected result. I never went into this program thinking that I would have that sort of change. After my 5-week testing finished I saw some numbers that backed up the changes people were seeing and my self-talk of “I just need to do these 10 weeks” started to change to “I like this and I feel so much better”.

Farrell's Member Jessica at Spartan Race 2017At week 7 or 8, I was really starting to see the results and felt 100 times better. I made the decision to continue with the program, which is something that I never thought I would do. The 45 minutes that I have at the gym six days a week have become my routine, and more importantly, one of the best parts of my day. I get to focus on improving myself and not worry about anything else. When we finished 10-week testing, I was impressed by the numbers but more importantly impressed and super thrilled that I hadn’t had to take my prescription meds for my headaches that used to make me miserable. My anxiety and depression were almost non-existent. That to me is worth the time that I am putting in. If the scale never moves, or my measurements never change, it wouldn’t matter if my headaches never return and my anxiety and depression continue to drop.

There have been so many positive gains from joining Farrell’s and pushing myself each and every day. No more headaches, reduced anxiety and depression, a husband who is super proud of me, a best friend who continuously pushes and challenges me to do more, and most important, a self-confidence that I had lost because of my other health issues.

I am extremely grateful for the people that I have met and the Farrell’s family that pushes and supports each other. I wish everyone would live life at Level 10.
